I love photographing people who are giddy in love.
Maya lives in DC. Steven lives in Minnesota. They met at Penn State seven years ago and have been dating long distance for the past four. Anyone who has been in a long distance relationship can probably attest to how difficult it is, so it’s no surprise that Maya decided to leave her job and move to Minnesota after Steven proposed. To make the transition easier, they decided to tie the knot in a civil ceremony in Arlington, VA. I think there can be misconceptions about civil ceremonies. In a day and age where weddings can be overly focused on the details of the venue, the music, etc., there’s something really beautiful and pure about a simple ceremony. Steven and Maya invited their closest friends and their families to witness their vows. Friends made a bouquet for her and lent her a veil. They found her a photographer to document the whole thing (Thanks May!). They were radiating, and giddy in love. You could see it in their eyes- Maya couldn’t stop the tears from falling. They’re still planning a larger wedding in the near future, but I think they’ll always remember this day as the day they started their new life together.
